THE MUSICAL:
This holiday musical tells the story of a Jewish brother and sister who journey west from New York on an Orphan Train in 1905 to a tiny Nebraska town, Wellspring, as the town is preparing for Christmas and Hanukkah is approaching.
SHOW RUNS: December 2-18, 2022
PERFORMANCES: Fridays and Saturdays, 7pm and Sundays at 2pm
REHEARSALS: Sept. 17 to Dec. 1, 2022 with no rehearsals on Thanksgiving or the Friday following (please come to auditions with details about all potential conflict dates)
This is a non-equity, volunteer position. We do not charge any fees (including ticket requirements) to be involved in our productions.
In order to ensure the safety of the production, we are requiring that everyone involved be vaccinated against COVID-19.

AUDITION INFORMATION:
Please prepare a 1-2 minute song to a recorded track (without vocals if possible). Have a resume and headshot available and knowing future conflict dates through rehearsal period and performances (Sept. 17-Dec 18). Actors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
Callbacks will be by invitation only on September 14 and will consist of reading sides (scenes) from the script.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:
All roles are open for all ethnicities.
Roles in this show are open to all actors age 8 to adult.
Roles are gendered and will be open to anyone comfortable portraying that gender.
Abraham Birnbaum – 30’s; Jewish owner of Wellspring dry goods store
Sophie Birnbaum – 30’s; Abe’s wife, earthy and maternal
Benjamin Ginsburg – 12; Jewish orphan, studious and spiritual
Rose Ginsburg – 15; Ben’s sister, protective and independent This character engages in minor physical intimacy (a kiss) with the character of Andrew.
Andrew Fletcher (NY accent) – 17; an orphan, tough and restless This character engages in minor physical intimacy (a kiss) with the character of Rose.
Meg Donahue (Irish accent) – 18; an orphan, mature and industrious
Herbert Manfred – 14; an orphan, shy and scared
Gertie Simmons – the Wellspring seamstress, a sweet chatterbox
Frank Pringle – a cantankerous Wellspring farmer
Sylvia Knutsen – Wellspring’s tavern owner, outgoing and hearty
Gunnar Knutsen – 15; Sylvia’s son, very adolescent
Doctor Bradley – Wellspring’s doctor, young and idealistic
Maxwell Ryder – Wellspring’s bank owner
Miss Anders – Wellspring’s schoolteacher
Irene Ryder – 14; Ryder’s daughter
Orphan Christina/Agnes – an orphan/a Wellspring kid
Orphan Robert/Horace – an orphan/a Wellspring kid
Orphan Hazel/Elin – an orphan/a Wellspring kid
NOTE: UNDERSTUDIES may be cast for this production. There is no guaranteed understudy performance scheduled. In event of need, a put-in rehearsal will be scheduled if possible.
