An incessantly ringing cell phone in a quiet café. A stranger at the next table who has had enough. And a dead man – with a lot of loose ends. So begins Dead Man’s Cell Phone, a wildly imaginative new comedy by MacArthur “Genius” Grant recipient and Pulitzer Prize finalist Sarah Ruhl. A work about how we memorialize the dead – and how that remembering changes us – it is the odyssey of a woman forced to confront her own assumptions about morality, redemption, and the need to connect in a technologically obsessed world.

Available Roles:
JEAN – a woman – 25-40 years of age
GORDON – a dead man 25-45 years of age
MRS. GOTTLIEB – Gordon’s mother 45-65 years of age
HERMIA – Gordon’s Widow 24 – 45 years of age
DWIGHT – Gordon’s brother 20-45 years of age
THE OTHER WOMAN/THE STRANGER – has an non-specific but mysterious accent – 30-50 years of age

The roles of Jean, Gordon and Dwight require moments of physical intimacy.
The roles of Jean and The Other Woman require a fight sequence.
Note: Age range represents the portrayal of the character. Actors of all ages are invited to audition.
